Sony and Rockstar Team Up for Custom GTA VI Hardware

Sony and Rockstar Games have officially pulled back the curtain on two limited-edition DualSense wireless controllers for Grand Theft Auto VI. Announced during today’s PlayStation State of Play, the new hardware celebrates the return to Vice City with designs that lean heavily into the aesthetic of the Leonida coastline.

The two models—branded as the “Black Limited Edition” and “White Limited Edition”—are more than simple color swaps. Both units feature a shimmering, iridescent finish designed to shift colors depending on the light, mimicking a Vice City sunset and the glow of neon signage. Sony also confirmed that both versions include custom-molded palm tree details on the grips and the official Grand Theft Auto VI logo stamped across the touchpad.

Nightlife vs. Daybreak

Earlier today, Sony designers clarified the inspiration behind the two distinct styles. The White Limited Edition is intended to evoke “Vice City at daybreak,” using pastel hues and white sands to reflect the laid-back glamour of the coast. In contrast, the Black Limited Edition aims to capture the energy of the city’s iconic nightlife, featuring deeper tones and sharper neon reflections.

These controllers aren’t just for show. Rockstar Games confirmed that the hardware is deeply integrated with the game’s mechanics. In Grand Theft Auto VI, the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers will respond dynamically to the environment, providing unique resistance during driving sequences or when Jason and Lucia engage in combat. This tactile feedback is being marketed as a core part of the PS5 experience.

Pricing and Global Availability

Pre-orders for the units are scheduled to go live on September 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. local time. In the U.S., the controllers will retail for $84.99. European customers can expect to pay €84.99, while the price is set at £74.99 in the U.K. and ¥12,480 in Japan.

Availability will be somewhat restricted. The Black Limited Edition is slated as an exclusive for direct.playstation.com in most major territories, while the White Limited Edition will be available in limited quantities both through PlayStation’s direct store and at participating retail partners.

The PlayStation and Rockstar Partnership

The announcement further solidifies the marketing tie-in between Sony and Rockstar Games. By revealing dedicated hardware months before the game’s launch, Sony is framing the PlayStation 5 as the lead console for the year’s most anticipated release. Many industry analysts expect this to be the first of several hardware collaborations, with rumors of console bundles and faceplates still circulating.

What We Know vs. What We Don’t

What we know:

  • Official release date: November 19, 2026.
  • Pre-order date: September 10, 2026.
  • Price: $84.99 USD.
  • Features: Iridescent finish, molded palm tree grips, and GTA VI branding.

What we don’t know:

  • Whether a dedicated PS5 Pro bundle featuring these designs is in development.
  • If there will be a matching limited-edition Pulse Elite headset.
  • The exact production numbers, though Sony has stressed they are “limited quantities.”

For players planning to hit the streets of Vice City on day one, these controllers represent the first tangible piece of merchandise for the new era of Grand Theft Auto. Given the high demand for Rockstar-related collectibles, these are expected to sell out quickly during the September pre-order window.
