PUBG Mobile Light Confirmed for 2026 Global Launch, BGMI Lite Expected Soon in India

BREAKING NEWS: Mobile gaming giant Krafton is set to significantly broaden the accessibility of its popular battle royale titles with the announcement of PUBG Mobile Light and the anticipated launch of BGMI Lite.

PUBG Mobile producer Rick Li officially revealed PUBG Mobile Light, a new iteration designed to lessen device strain while preserving the core gaming experience. This new version is slated for a global launch in 2026, with pre-registration beginning on August 25th.

PUBG Mobile Light: Full Experience, Lighter Footprint

Li clarified in a recent social media post that PUBG Mobile Light is not intended as a stripped-down version with fewer features. Instead, Lightspeed Studios’ objective is to make the full game more accessible by dramatically reducing its overall device footprint.

The new title will include the popular Erangel map and the identical core combat experience found in the standard PUBG Mobile game. Crucially, players will be able to transfer their existing in-game items, outfits, and other cosmetic assets by simply logging into their PUBG Mobile account.

This approach stands in contrast to the long-standing PUBG Mobile Lite, which has historically offered a smaller game with fewer features to accommodate lower-end devices. PUBG Mobile Light aims to deliver the complete, uncompromised experience with optimized performance.

Storage and Compatibility Details

The Android version of PUBG Mobile Light is projected to require approximately 1GB of storage. The iOS counterpart will need around 2GB, offering a substantial reduction compared to the standard application.

Further enhancing user control, players will have the option to selectively choose which content they store on their devices. This flexibility gives them greater agency over the game’s total storage requirements.

In a significant move for community integration, PUBG Mobile Light will remain fully connected to the wider PUBG Mobile ecosystem. This ensures that “Light” players can seamlessly team up and engage with friends who are using the standard PUBG Mobile app.

Li also confirmed that PUBG Mobile Light will receive simultaneous updates alongside the main PUBG Mobile title. This commitment guarantees that players across both versions will consistently access new content together, fostering a unified gaming community.

BGMI Lite: India’s Accessible Battle Royale

Parallel to these global developments, India is also gearing up for its own accessible battle royale experience. BGMI Lite, a version tailored for the Indian market, is widely expected to launch later this year.

Much like the global PUBG Mobile Light, BGMI Lite is anticipated to target lower-end smartphones. Its introduction is poised to significantly broaden the accessibility of the popular Battlegrounds Mobile India title across the vast Indian mobile gaming landscape.

This strategic move aligns with Krafton’s broader efforts to cultivate and expand gaming communities. Earlier this month, Krafton India launched the BGMI Campus MVP program, a 90-day student leadership initiative.

The program involves 150 student ambassadors from 17 IITs and 28 NITs. These participants are tasked with building and managing campus BGMI communities, creating gaming content, hosting meet-ups, organizing tournaments, and leading other community activities across three distinct phases.

Implications for Mobile Gaming Accessibility

“The launch of ‘Light’ versions signifies a crucial step towards true mobile gaming inclusivity,” commented a composite industry analyst. “By optimizing for lower-spec devices without sacrificing the core experience, Krafton is opening doors to millions of new players in emerging markets who might otherwise be excluded due to hardware limitations. This is a smart long-term strategy for market penetration and community growth.”

The focus on accessibility, coupled with the ability to retain existing cosmetics and play with standard app users, positions both PUBG Mobile Light and BGMI Lite as significant entries in the mobile battle royale genre.
